Speaker Bios:

Chhavi Chauhan

Dr. Chhavi Chauhan is the Founder and President of Samast AI, Director of Scientific Outreach at the American Society for Investigative Pathology, and serves on the Boards for various mission-driven organizations in the spheres of scholarly publishing, digital pathology, AI Ethics, & youth education. She is a former biomedical researcher, expert scholarly communicator, and a sought-after mentor in the fields of scientific research, scholarly publishing, and AI Ethics, especially for women and minorities. She has gathered several awards and accolades in each of these domains. She is a thought leader, a renowned international speaker, an award-winning author, and a strong advocate for equitable and accessible healthcare.

Alison Denby

Alison Denby is Vice President of Journals at Oxford University Press (OUP). She’s been at OUP for over ten years and prior to that worked at BePress, Wiley/Blackwell, HMSO and Emerald. She is passionate about supporting the long-term sustainability of the not-for-profit journal publishing community. Alison has an MBA from Babson College.

Roy Kaufman

Roy Kaufman is Managing Director of both Business Development and Government Relations for CCC. Prior to CCC, Kaufman served as Legal Director, John Wiley and Sons, Inc. He is a member of, among other things, the Bar of the State of New York, the Author’s Guild, and the editorial board of UKSG Insights. Kaufman also advises the US Government on international trade matters through membership in International Trade Advisory Committee (ITAC) 13 – Intellectual Property and the Library of Congress’s Copyright Public Modernization Committee.  He serves on the Executive Committee of the of the United States Intellectual Property Alliance (USIPA) Board. He was the founding corporate Secretary of CrossRef, and formerly chaired its legal working group. He is a Chef in the Scholarly Kitchen and has written and lectured extensively on the subjects of copyright, licensing, open access, artificial intelligence, metadata, text/data mining, new media, artists’ rights, and art law. Kaufman is Editor-in-Chief of Art Law Handbook: From Antiquities to the Internet and author of two books on publishing contract law. He is a graduate of Brandeis University and Columbia Law School.

Spencer Sanders

Spencer Sanders is a Trademark and Copyright Associate at Fresh IP, a modern IP boutique, focused on supporting emerging deep tech companies. Mr. Sanders has broad experience handling domestic and international trademarks, copyrights, and related matters. He holds a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law and is a member of the District of Columbia bar.

Mr. Sanders is a seasoned intellectual property attorney with demonstrated expertise in the legal frameworks surrounding emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. With a strong background in trademark, copyright, and internet domain law, he has helped businesses, innovators, and institutions navigate complex IP challenges in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.

Kevin Lomangino

Kevin Lomangino is the Director of KGL Consulting, a leading management consultancy serving the scholarly publishing community. He works with societies to build and optimize their publishing programs in a range of areas including editorial development, strategic planning, peer review workflow, and new journal launches. He also manages publisher RFPs on behalf of society clients and has helped negotiate dozens of society/publisher contracts. He was previously a journal publisher at Wolters Kluwer and has also been an editor, journalist, and communications consultant.
